Senator Kim Highlights Importance of Making Regional Transportation More Affordable with Fewer Delays at Nomination Hearing for Secretary of Transportation
January 15, 2025
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Senator Andy Kim highlighted critical issues facing New Jerseyans during the Senate Commerce Committee’s Nomination Hearing for U.S. Secretary of Transportation nominee, Sean Duffy. Kim focused his questioning on ensuring that Mr. Duffy would be a partner to New Jersey as it seeks to improve regional transit, ensure that passenger rail programs are effectively funded, and to bring transparency to issues of concern like increased drone usage.
“We’ve had a lot of problems over this last year in New Jersey when it comes to public transit and delays on NJ Transit…I guarantee you that we cannot have another summer like that again, we’ve got to figure this out,” said Senator Kim. “What I want from you is a commitment that we can work together with urgency here. It is not just about NJ Transit on the state side. Because of the primacy of the rails for Amtrak, this is something we need to make sure we have a federal partner that is willing to work, and I want to see if you’re going to be that federal partner for us.”
Senator Kim’s questions to Mr. Duffy also included a focus on working with the Federal Aviation Administration to find bipartisan agreement around increasing transparency around drone use, which arose as an issue in New Jersey during December of 2024.
