Senator Kim Pushes for Clear Objectives from Incoming Administration on Meeting Challenges and Thwarting Terrorist Threats at Homeland Security Secretary Nomination Hearing
January 17, 2025
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Senator Andy Kim emphasized the need for a transparent decision-making structure and comprehensive strategy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to protect our nation during the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs’ Nomination Hearing for U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Governor Kristi Noem. The Senator focused his questioning on how we ensure DHS meets its primary objective to prevent terrorism targeting Americans.
“I want to make sure that in particular with DHS…the primary mission, the very first mission is ‘prevent terrorist attacks within the United States’ and do everything we can to minimize that type of threat,” said Senator Kim. “I know that part of that effort to try to and minimize terrorist attacks…border security is a tool to be able to accomplish that. I want to make sure the next Homeland Security Secretary has a very detailed knowledge and understanding about terrorist groups and their capabilities and is tracking that on an absolute daily basis. And that they understand that is their top mission.”
Senator Kim’s questions to Governor Noem also pushed for clarity about the incoming administration’s planned organizational structure and decision-making processes at DHS to ensure Congress has the ability to do their constitutional duties for Congressional oversight.
