Senator Kim Responds to Recently Announced Funding Cuts by the Department of Agriculture Which Would Take Away Food From Kids and Communities Across New Jersey

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to the recently announced cuts from the Department of Agriculture which would cancel over $26 million in funding for local food purchasing assistance programs in New Jersey. These programs would have helped provide healthy food to NJ schools and community food pantries across the state.
“In a state that prides itself on our public schools, it’s shameful we will now see nutritious lunches taken away from our students, in addition to food being taken off shelves in food pantries, farmers losing jobs, and food going to waste in ‘The Garden State’,” said Senator Andy Kim. “These Department of Agriculture cuts take food away families and communities in New Jersey who need help the most and is just one more example of President Trump and Musk prioritizing the wealthy over the needs of working Americans during this chaotic time.”
Senator Kim works to lower healthcare costs and breakdown disparities in healthcare access across our country as a member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), whose jurisdiction includes most of the agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services. Kim also sits on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging.
